Greater Tumen Initiative (GTI)

The Greater Tumen Initiative started out as a 10yr program known Tumen River Area Development Programme in 1995. It was expanded, renamed, and extended for another 10yrs come 2005. The program focuses on the agricultureenvironment, energy, trade and investment, tourism, and transportation sectors. The initiative initially started out with 5 countries, namely: People’s Republic of China, Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, Mongolia, Republic of Korea, and Russian Federation. In Nov 2009 however, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea withdrew its participation from the same. The initiative is supported by the United Nations Development Programme and other donors.
